New partner organisation in South Africa - DES: To improve lives in disadvantaged communities in South Africa

New BORDA partner NGO Decentralised Environmental Solutions (DES) kicked off End of June 2011 with the aim to develop cooperation with strategic organisations and entities , which support DEWATS dissemination in South Africa.


The Kick-Off meeting of the new BORDA partner NGO DES took place in the shared BORDA/HERING premises in Shakas Head, South Africa.

  • Providing access to sanitation;
  • The provision of clean water;
  • Meeting energy needs;
  • Solid waste management programs;
  • Programs using treated waste water for food production; and
  • Environmental education projects

Local Partners of the new BORDA partner NGO are the municipality of Durban and the city partnership Bremen Durban. The work aims to improve the living conditions of the semi urban population and their basic needs of water supply and waste water treatment systems.
"We are happy to have identified with DES an innovative partner organisation promoting decentralised wastewater treatment solutions with a special focus on using treated wastewater in urban horticultural gardens" says Mr. Stefan Reuter, founding member of DES and Deputy Director of BORDA Headquarters in Bremen, Germany.
