Zweites BORDA hilft Spendenprojekt

Hilfe für geistig und körperlich behinderte Kinder in Lesotho

Nachdem das BORDA hilft Spendenprogramm 2007/08 bereits für die Verbesserung der Wasserversorgung des indischen Dorfes Jalahallihundi arbeitet, kann mit weiteren Spendengeldern in Höhe von 3.167 Euro nun auch das zweite Hilfsprojekt, diesmal in Lesotho, realisiert werden. Die Durchführung dieses Hilfsprojektes übernimmt die BORDA Partnerorganisation Technologies for Economic Development (TED) aus Maseru, Lesothos.

Our long-time collegague and friend Mario Bonifazi has passed away much too early on September 29, 2008 in his home country Switzerland.

He was heading BORDA's project activities in Mali, Africa from 1988 up to 2000.

DEWATS Presented as the Proven Sanitation Solution

With 34 representatives from 13 countries the BORDA BNS partner network attended the World Water Week 2008 in Stockholm this August. The special focus of this years conference being sanitation, the challenge for the network was to present its long lasting successful experience in the implementation of decentralized sanitation solutions, demonstrating that DEWATS represents a proven solution to the Sanitation Gap and is ready for mass-dissemination in the context of community based sanitation programs.

The First Volunteer Now in India

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has launched a new volunteer service involving the assignment of 18 to 28 year-olds in developing countries: Weltwärts. The idea behind the volunteer service is the formula of learning by serving and its aims are both to achieve added value for the partner projects and to spark new interest in development issues in Germany.

In the context of the Weltwärts programme and specific to its project activities BORDA has selected 11 volunteers to work with its local partner organizations in Asia and Africa.

Der Bau des neuen Wasserversorgungssystems schreitet voran.

Nachdem im Juni die Kommunal-behörde von Chamrajnagar nach ihrer mündlichen nun auch ihre schriftliche Zustimmung zur Unterstützung der neuen Wasserversorgung in Jalahallihundi gegeben hat, konnten mögliche Bohrstellen für die Wasserversorgung identifiziert werden. Hierfür konnte der Ingenieur Ramesh Nathan aus dem östlichen Nachbarstaat Tamil Nadu gewonnen werden.

DEWATS - A Proven Solution to the Sanitation Gap

As always, the 2008 World Water Week in Stockholm will feature some 100 workshops, seminars, and side-events. True to the theme Progress and Prospects on Water: For A Clean and Healthy World this years World Water Week will have a special focus on basic sanitation. Representatives of the BORDA head office in Bremen, Germany, will attend the conference together with more than 30 other delegates from the BORDA-BNS-Network in Asia and Africa. The BORDA Network will host its own event and give a presentation as part of a workshop.

BORDA introduced Health Impact Assessment and -Monitoring for all Community Based Sanitation Projects in India

Background: BORDA and its 16 network partners in India are implementing sanitation projects including the construction of DEWATS in slums and poor peri-urban settlements for the last 8 years. Due to time and resources constraints, a systematic evaluation of the achieved impacts on the health and hygiene condition of the direct beneficiaries/users could not be done until this year.

In spring 2008, BORDA together with 5 partner organizations developed a tool allowing the evaluation of already realized impacts and an on-going health and hygiene impact monitoring.

Basic Sanitation in Kolar Goldfields

In March of this year the journalists Katharina Nickoleit and Christian Nusch travelled to India on behalf of a German radio station to produce a firsthand documentary on the basic sanitation measures in India. They reported ona poor urban slum settlement in the Indian city of Kolar Gold Fields near Bangalore. Coincidentally, Kolar Goldfields is a settlement that had benefited from BORDAs expertise and the successful implementation of various basic sanitation measures.

Sanitäre Grundversorgung in Kolar Gold Fields

Im März diesen Jahres reisten die Journalistien Katharina Nickoleit und Christian Nusch nach Indien um im Auftrag eines deutschen Radiosenders einen Beitrag über Maßnahmen zur sanitären Grundversorgung in Indien zu produzieren. Es entstand eine Radioreportage über eine Slumsiedlung in der Indischen Stadt Kolar Gold Fields in der Nähe von Bangalore. Dort hatte BORDA im Rahmen des Indien Programms Maßnahmen zur sanitären Grundversorgung umgesetzt.
